Management of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, commonly known as Ridge Hospital, has confirmed the assault of a security officer on duty, describing the incident as “deeply regrettable.”
The attack took place on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at approximately 7:28 p.m. at the Labour Ward of the facility.
According to a statement from hospital authorities, the security officer on duty instructed an 18-year-old visitor, identified as Gabriel Dimson, who was accompanying his mother and a friend, to proceed to the reception area.
The directive was given because the group was standing at the ward entrance outside the approved visiting hours, in violation of hospital protocols.
Hospital officials said Mr. Dimson allegedly refused to comply with the instruction, pushed the security officer to the ground, and subjected him to physical assault.
The officer reportedly fell unconscious following the attack but received immediate medical attention from doctors on duty.
He has since been admitted as a patient at the hospital and is said to be responding well to treatment.
The incident was promptly reported to the Ghana Police Service at the Adabraka District Police Command.
Authorities have arrested the suspect, Gabriel Dimson, and investigations are ongoing to facilitate his prosecution.
In a firm statement, hospital management condemned the attack and reiterated that violence against staff will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
“Our security officers play a critical role in enforcing Hospital policies designed to protect patients, visitors, and healthcare workers,” the management said.
The hospital has appealed to the public to cooperate fully with staff and to adhere strictly to established guidelines, including designated visiting hours and other protocols, to help sustain a safe and orderly environment for all.
