The Accra Sports Stadium witnessed a thrilling encounter on Wednesday afternoon as Accra Lions secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Accra Hearts of Oak in the Ghana Premier League’s rescheduled Week 28 match.
Initially slated for the 27th of March, the clash was postponed to the 1st of May.
Prior to the match, Accra Hearts of Oak occupied the 12th spot in the league table with 35 points, while Accra Lions sat comfortably in 8th place with 40 points. The game commenced with both teams fighting for control in the midfield, and neither side could break the deadlock as the first half drew to a close.
Following the halftime break, both teams made tactical adjustments and lineup changes. Accra Hearts of Oak was forced to substitute Glid Otanga in the 49th minute due to an injury, with Gideon Asante Yeboah replacing him. Otanga sustained a cut from a collision on the field.
Accra Lions capitalized on a counterattack in the 56th minute, with Ibrahim Issa finding the back of the net to put his team in the lead. Despite Accra Hearts of Oak’s relentless efforts to equalize, Accra Lions held their ground, with their backline standing firm to protect their advantage.
