Asante Kotoko ended Karela United’s recent dominance in their encounters with a hard-fought 1-0 victory in Week 1 of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League.
The match took place at the Naa Sheriga Sports Center in Nalerigu on Sunday afternoon.
Karela United, who had beaten and drawn with Asante Kotoko last season, saw their streak broken when new signing Albert Amoah scored the decisive goal in the 37th minute.
Making his debut, Amoah unleashed a powerful shot from inside the box that rattled off the underside of the crossbar and into the net, leaving Karela’s goalkeeper, Mohammed Ganiu, helpless.
Despite Karela United’s attempts to level the score, Asante Kotoko’s defense held firm, with goalkeeper Mohamed Camara making several crucial saves. Camara’s stellar performance earned him the Man of the Match award.
Karela United will face Berekum Chelsea next, while Asante Kotoko prepares for a showdown with Nsoatreman in their upcoming fixtures.
