Legon Cities Football Club’s journey in the Ghana Premier League came to an end on Monday, May 19, 2025 as they were relegated to the Division One League following a 4-1 defeat to Nations FC at the University of Ghana Stadium. Kelvin Ampoful’s brace, along with goals from Emmanuel Annor and Sadiq Alhassan, sealed the win for Nations FC, who have now taken the top spot in the league with three matches remaining.

The defeat confirmed Legon Cities’ relegation, mathematically ending their Premier League campaign with just 25 points from 31 games. The club struggled throughout the season, unable to match the pace of the top contenders. Despite their efforts, Legon Cities’ performances were inconsistent, ultimately leading to their downfall.

Legon Cities, previously known as WA All Stars, have a rich history in Ghanaian football. The club was crowned Ghana Premier League champions in 2016, a testament to their potential. However, their fortunes have taken a turn for the worse in recent years. After being rebranded in 2019, the club had high hopes with signings like Asamoah Gyan, but their performances have declined significantly.

The relegation marks the end of an era for Legon Cities in the top flight. The club’s management and fans will be hoping for a swift return to the Premier League. As they look to regroup and rebuild, the focus will shift to the Division One League, where they will aim to regain their footing and make a push for promotion.
