Ghanaian athlete, Benjamin Azamati, was unable to qualify for the finals in the men’s 100 meters at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

The Ghanaian sprinter was part of the athletes who competed in the men’s 100m Semifinal 1 on Sunday, August 4, 2024.

Jamaica’s Oblique Seville came first in the race, clocking a time of 9.81, while 2020 Olympic bronze medalist from the USA, Noah Lyles, placed 2nd with a time of 9.83 to make it to the finals of the men’s 100 meters.

Great Britain’s highly-rated sprinter, Louie Hinchliffe, who won the heats previously, placed 3rd with 9.97 and was unable to earn an automatic qualification.

Benjamin Azamati qualified for the semifinals in the men’s 100m dash after finishing second in Heat One with a time of 10.08 seconds on Saturday, August 3, 2024.

Azamati becomes the 4th Ghanaian to exit the Olympic Games individual events.

Ghana still has two more events to compete in at the Summer Games: the men’s 200 meters, where Abdul Rasheed Saminu will represent the country on August 5, and the relay team competing in the 4×100 event on August 8, 2024.
