In-form midfielder Salim Adams delivered under pressure, converting a crucial late penalty to secure Medeama a deserved 1-1 draw against Bechem United in an absorbing Ghana Premier League clash at Nana Gyeabour Park on Saturday.
Medeama dictated much of the contest, enjoying superior possession and carving out the clearer scoring opportunities, yet it was the hosts who broke the deadlock against the run of play.
Evergreen forward Augustine Okrah finished off a sharp counter-attacking move in the 69th minute, meeting Yaw Annors precise delivery with a clinical touch.
Prior to that breakthrough, Medeama had come close to taking the lead themselves. Salim Adams nearly found the net with a trademark free kick in the 62nd minute, forcing an excellent save from goalkeeper Emmanuel Anning. Kingsley Braye also threatened moments later, latching onto a quick counter but denied by a last-ditch goal-line clearance.
As the game edged toward its conclusion, Medeamas persistence finally paid dividends. A late infringement on Prince Owusu inside the penalty area handed the visitors a lifeline, and Adams stepped up with composure and precision to slot home the equaliser.
The draw lifts Bechem United to seventh on the table with 37 points, leaving them 13 points behind the league leaders as the season approaches its decisive stretch.
