Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Vice President George Afriyie has urged caution over expectations for the Black Stars, insisting that expanding the technical team does not automatically translate into better results.
His comments follow the GFAs announcement of five new appointments to the senior national team ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
French coach Alain Ravera and Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren have joined as assistant coaches, while Spanish strategist Jose Daniel Martinez Alfonso has been brought in to bolster scouting and match analysis. Carlos Lozano Romero returns as the teams physiotherapist after his role at the 2022 World Cup, and British-born Ghanaian performance coach Dwayne Peasah Paa Kwesi completes the revamped setup.
Afriyie, however, cautioned fans against reading too much into the changes.
“Ghanaians should temper their expectations for the Black Stars at the World Cup,” he told Asempa FM.”Having more hands on board doesn’t automatically improve the team’s prospects,” Afriyie added.
The Black Stars are set to regroup in March for international friendlies against Austria and Germany as part of their World Cup preparations.
Ghana, making its fifth appearance at the tournament, will face Panama, England, and Croatia in the group stage, opening against Panama on June 17, 2026, before taking on England on June 23 and concluding against Croatia on June 27.
