Former striker Asamoah Gyan believes the Black Stars will be the dark horse at the 2026 World Cup, slated for this summer.The West African country will make their fifth appearance at the World Cup. Ghana will play against Panama, England and Croatia in Group L.The Black Stars’ best performance at the World Cup was in 2010 in South Africa, where the team played in the quarterfinal for the first time.Speaking to One Football, the ex-striker believes the Black Stars could spring a surprise when the expanded tournament kicks.Gyan, who remains Africas all-time leading scorer at the World Cup, also turned his attention to individual honours, tipping Kylian Mbapp to finish as the tournaments top scorer.”Ghana will be the dark horse of the tournament, and Kylian Mbapp will be the top scorer, Gyan, who played at the 2006, 2010 and 2014 World Cups in Germany, South Africa and Brazil, respectively, said.Gyan also tipped a heavyweight clash between Argentina and Germany in the final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, boldly predicting thatJulian Nagelsmann’s sidewill emerge as the champions.”Argentina and Germany are my picks for the World Cup final, and Germany to win,” he said.After suffering group phase elimination in 2014 and 2022 in Brazil and Qatar, the Black Stars are aiming to put up an improved performance at the Mundial.Ghanawill kick off their group stage campaign against the Central American side on June 17, before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.The Black Stars, as part of their preparations for the World Cup, will play against Austria today, Friday, March 27, at theErnst Happel Stadium, before heading to Stuttgart, Germany, for another friendly on Monday, March 30.
