The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 22-year-old man, Evans Puplampu, for allegedly causing fear and panic among the public after posting a viral video on TikTok in which he posed as a bandit issuing threats.
In the video, the suspect, with his face partially covered, made threatening remarks under the caption “We are starting from Ghana churches.” The clip quickly gained traction on social media, sparking widespread concern and panic among members of the public, particularly regarding potential attacks on churches.
According to the Police, sustained intelligence gathering and surveillance led to the arrest of Puplampu on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at Ashaiman Community 22 in the Greater Accra Region.
During interrogation, the suspect admitted to being the person in the video. He claimed he copied a similar trending pose from social media “for fun” and did not intend to cause any harm or panic.
A Samsung Galaxy A15 mobile phone, allegedly used in creating and sharing the video, has been retrieved and retained as an exhibit.
Puplampu is currently in Police custody assisting with investigations. He is expected to be arraigned before court soon to face justice.
The Police have warned the public against posting content that could incite fear or panic, emphasising that such acts are criminal offences under Ghanaian law.
