A 35-year-old Ghanaian man, identified as Patrick Sarpong, has tragically lost his life after being struck by a tractor-trailer during a severe winter storm in Massachusetts
The incident, which occurred late Monday night, has sent shockwaves through the Ghanaian diaspora in the United States and his hometown in Ghana.
According to the Massachusetts State Police, the accident took place around 11:15 p.m. near the 104.6-mile marker in Hopkinton.
Sarpong, a resident of Vernon, Connecticut, was reportedly returning home from work during a period of heavy snowfall.
Authorities state that Sarpong had pulled his vehicle to the edge of the westbound lanes—positioned partially in the breakdown lane and partially in the travel lane—to clear accumulated snow from his car. While he was outside the vehicle, a passing tractor-trailer struck him.
First responders from the Westborough Fire Department and regional medical services arrived at the scene shortly after the emergency call. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead after being rushed to a nearby hospital
