The Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Sam Nartey George, has passionately urged Ghanaians to vote for John Dramani Mahama to ensure the anti-LGBT+ bill is signed into law. Speaking at the National Democratic Congress (NDC) final rally, Sam George emphasized the former president’s commitment to protecting Ghanaian culture, family values, and religious principles.
“We need John Dramani Mahama to come and sign the bill into law. If you love the children of Ghana, if you love our family values, if you love your faith as a Christian, as a Muslim, or even as a traditionalist, you know that we do not support homosexuality,” he stated firmly.
The anti-LGBT+ bill, introduced in August 2021 and approved by Parliament in February 2024, enjoys strong support from religious leaders, traditional authorities, and ordinary Ghanaians. However, it remains unsigned by President Nana Akufo-Addo, sparking criticism from the NDC and activists like Sam George.
Sam George did not hold back in his criticism of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP). He accused NPP leaders of failing to prioritize the bill and linked a vote for their flagbearers, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO), to support for homosexuality.
“A vote for Bawumia and NAPO is a vote for homosexuality, it is a vote for comprehensive sexuality education, and Ghanaians say no to ‘Trumu Trumu,’” he declared.
