Former member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Stephen Atubiga has described the incarceration of the former Member of Parliament for China Paga constituency as one of the most wicked scapegoats betrayal of the NDC.

The former National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP was sentenced to six-year imprisonment by an Accra High Court in 2018 for causing financial loss to the state while National Coordinator of the defunct Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA).

He was said to have acted in a manner that resulted in the loss of GH¢4.1 million by the government after businessman Phillip Akpeena Assibit had made false claims that he had secured a $65-million World Bank funding for the creation of one million jobs for the youth.

Abuga Pele was found guilty on two counts of abetment of fraud and five counts of willfully causing financial loss to the state.

He received six years for abetment of fraud and four years for willfully causing financial loss to the state, both to be served concurrently.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo granted him a presidential pardon after he was taken ill at the Nsawam Maximum Security Prison, from where he was transferred to the Greater Accra Regional Hospital and admitted to the High Dependency Unit (HDU) of the hospital.

Reacting to his predicament, Stephen Atubiga noted that the NDC did not treat one of its own very well.

Hon. Abuga Pele’s predicament of going to prison was one of the most wicked scapegoats betrayals NDC ever did to their own.

Shame to all the northern leadership of the NDC who failed to support my disagreement with the party and government then, trying to sacrifice one of their own for political gain.

How could we have allowed  Elvis Afriyie then minister of youth and sports  to selectively,  select  a 9 member committee made up of all Ewes to investigate a northerner, without inclusion of the substantive minister an Ewe  who supervised and sanctioned all the payments.

Please forgive me if you think I sound Tribalistic. I am not and will never be one. As Most of you will agree with me that, when it comes to politics in our country, tribal and regional balance plays a vital role on decision making.

Put me on record I would have still had a problem if all the 9 members put together to investigate hon. Pele and Philip were all northerners.

Part of the justification  why Dr Raymond resigned. A topic to discuss later.

Beside me thinking oppositely against the selective justice against Abuga in some meeting I happen to have bumped in to,  I had a problem with why the minister of youth and sports wasn’t part of the accusation?

I remember in 2016 when the case had started, I took jdm onn at a program on XYZ FM to show some balls by also prosecuting then minister of youth and sports. I remember saying the fish rots from the head. That was the beginning of my fallout with  Felix kwakye then deputy Minister of information. A topic to discuss soon.

I recall Jdm and myself then sitting President had a good conversation on my stand about the case against Abuga Pele, the unbalanced 9 members investigative committee made up all ewes to investigate a northerner.  A full topic is to be discussed soon.

Hon. Pele will testify from day one my involvement in standing by him and Philip. and getting bond for Philips bail.     A topic to be discussed soon.

Anyway, Thanks to our current reasonable God-fearing President. President Nana Addo for given Hon. Abuga Pele another chance.  We are very grateful for his kindness. I pray in his wisdom and time he will give bro Philip his freedom to another chance in life

Brother pele welcome back and enjoy your freedom.
