The Board of Directors of Activa International Insurance Ghana has announced the appointment of Salifu Abubakari as the Acting Managing Director of the Company, effective February 2026.
Mr Salifu Abubakari is a highly accomplished insurance and risk management professional with over 18 years of progressive experience spanning underwriting, sales leadership, risk advisory, and strategic management within the domestic insurance industry.
He holds a Bachelor of Business degree in Marketing from the University of Cape Coast and a Master of Science degree in Insurance and Business Continuity from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). He also possesses an Advanced Diploma in Sales and Marketing Management (UK), reflecting a strong blend of technical insurance expertise and commercial acumen.
Mr. Abubakari is a distinguished Associate in Risk Management (ARM) of The Institutes (USA), a Chartered Insurer (Ghana) and a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU, USA). These globally recognised credentials underscore his deep technical competence and commitment to international best practice in insurance and risk governance.
In addition to his corporate leadership experience, he is actively engaged in academia and professional development. He serves as a lecturer at the Ghana Insurance University and KNUST, teaching at the master’s degree level and contributing to the development of the next generation of insurance professionals.
He has also previously chaired the Priority Insurance Education Committee, further demonstrating his dedication to strengthening professional standards in the industry.
Mr. Abubakari has held senior roles with reputable institutions including Priority Insurance Ltd, KEK Group, and Regency Alliance Insurance, before joining Activa International Insurance Ghana Ltd. His career reflects broad experience across operational leadership, business development, risk management, and institutional growth.
He is also deeply involved in professional associations, having served as Vice Chair of the CPCU Global Virtual Committee and Vice President of the CPCU West Africa Chapter. He is currently President of the CPCU West Africa Chapter and has served as a Committee Member of the Ghana Insurers Association (GIA) External Liaison and Public Relations Committee, as well as a member of the National Insurance Commission’s Insurance Penetration Committee.
He further contributes to the Insurance Awareness Coordinating Group Working Committee, championing industry education and public outreach.
Mr. Abubakaris profile is complemented by extensive local and international executive training in insurance leadership, risk management, and corporate strategy. He is widely respected as a transformational leader, educator, and advocate for professional excellence in Ghana’s insurance sector.
The board expressed confidence Mr. Abubakari’s experience and strategic perspective, stating that it will strengthen Activa’s market position and support the company’s growth and transformation agenda.
