American comedian, writer, and actor Alex Duong has died at the age of 42.

Duong was diagnosed last year with alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive cancer affecting soft tissue. He underwent surgery to remove a malignant growth that blocked blood flow to his optic nerve, resulting in vision loss.

Duong was hospitalized with septic shock on Friday, March 27, and passed away peacefully the following day at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica, California. His family said he was surrounded by loved ones and was able to say goodbye to his daughter, Everest, before his death.
