The Ghana Police Service says the Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, has reported to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to assist with investigations into an alleged assault involving him and a police officer during the recent ‘Save the Judiciary demonstration’.
The confirmation of Mr Afenyo-Markin’s appearance before the CID was contained in a statement issued by the Police Administration.
According to the police, the Minority Leader’s cooperation forms part of ongoing efforts to clarify events surrounding a confrontation during the protest, which was held on Monday, 4 May 2025.
The police further disclosed that a second line of investigation has commenced, following a formal petition submitted by Mr Afenyo-Markin, in which he alleges that he was assaulted by the officer involved.
“Both investigations are ongoing, and the public will be updated as the case progresses. The Ghana Police Service reiterates its commitment to conducting a fair, impartial, and thorough investigation into both claims,” the statement said.
