The Ghana women’s tennis team made significant progress on March 6, 2024, in their quest to get Ghana their first medal of the 2023 African Games, as Celia Danso impressively defeated her Ugandan opponent 3-2 to book a spot for Ghana in the quarterfinals of the competition.
An impressive spark of momentum from 13-year-old Juanita Borteye started it all for Ghana as she beat her Ugandan opponent by a whopping 3-0. Juanita gave her opponent no chance to come into the game with a sense of comeback.
On the flip side, Ghana’s men’s table tennis team was shown the exit door of the team event after losing 3-0 to Tunisia. All hopes now rest on the female table tennis team to make a mark in the quarterfinals for Ghana.
Although team Ghana’s overall performance has looked shaky, with the male team already knocked out, the team spirit and intensity cannot be discounted as the players are eager to make amends for their slow start by upping their game in the next round.
