Akosua Serwaa, the first wife of the late musician Charles Kojo Fosuh, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, has announced her intention to appeal the High Court’s decision that dismissed her claim to be recognised as his only legal wife.
The court had rejected her assertion that their marriage constituted an ordinance marriage, a legal status that would have prevented Daddy Lumba from taking additional wives.
Speaking to Citi News on Monday, 1 December 2025, William Kusi, Serwaa’s legal counsel, confirmed that the appeal would be filed by the end of the day. He argued that the High Court erred in its judgment, pointing to documents and admissions from the defendants that, he said, supported his client’s claim.
Responding to critics who suggested the case was mishandled, Kusi clarified that the marriage certificate did not require certification by a German official to be admissible. He explained that Ghanaian law provides multiple avenues to present such evidence, all of which they had followed.
The case has attracted widespread public attention, shedding light on the complexities surrounding marital recognition and legal rights in Ghana.
