Popular Ghanaian actor and TV presenter Akwasi Boadi, known as Akrobeto, has opened up about why he rarely takes pictures with fans, despite appreciating their support.
In an interview with Ghana Weekend, Akrobeto said several past incidents have made him very cautious. He explained that innocent photos have been twisted in ways that nearly destroyed his reputation.
He shared one case where a man used a photo of them together to trick a 16-year-old girl. The man pretended to be a close friend of Akrobeto and promised to help the girl become an actress, but instead ended up impregnating her.
“I was there when the girl’s mother came to me with the photo, asking if I knew the man. I said no. That’s when they narrated how he used my name and photo to deceive the girl,” Akrobeto said.
In another case, a photo taken at a hotel with female fans was later posted online with a caption suggesting one of them was his lover. Days later, Akrobeto received threatening calls from a man who claimed to be her husband. The issue was only cleared after the woman’s friends explained the truth.
“If it had been a matter of life and death, I could have died all because of a photo,” he added.
He also recounted how a spiritualist placed his framed photo in a shrine and falsely claimed Akrobeto was his client, using the image to promote his services.
“These experiences taught me a lesson. I don’t repeat mistakes. I only exchange pleasantries with people now, but not photos,” he said, noting that it’s not pride but a way of protecting himself.
Akrobeto stressed that his decision is based on wisdom and a need to stay away from avoidable problems.
