NPP parliamentary candidate Nana Akua Afriyie has declared imminent victory ahead of the July 11, 2025, rerun in Ablekuma North, vowing to reclaim what she calls her “rightful mandate” after seven months of legal battles.

The rerun, ordered by Ghana’s Electoral Commission across 19 polling stations, follows disputes over unauthenticated pink sheets from the December 2024 elections.

In a pre-election interview, Afriyie accused the opposition NDC of manipulating the initial collation process: “The NDC candidate and leadership accepted results only where they won, rejecting pink sheets from areas they lost.” She emphasized her composure during the chaos, stating, “I was not perturbed… God will let my right prevail.” When pressed on accepting a potential loss, she insisted, “It is win. The Lord of Hosts will speak tomorrow, and justice will prevail.”

The candidate’s stance puts her at odds with her party; the NPP initially boycotted the rerun, but Afriyie broke ranks to contest independently. The rerun outcome could intensify political friction in a constituency where the NDC currently holds parliamentary control under the ruling government.
