Peter Ayinbisa, who recently generated much controversy when he said that the drinking water in Bongo made people sexually active thereby leading to high rates of teenage pregnancy, has been dropped and replaced as District Chief Executive (DCE) of Bongo.
A relatively unknown Rita Atanga has been nominated by the President to replace him. Also rising from relative adversity to top position is General Secretary of the NPP in the Ashanti Region, Samuel Pyne who was the Board Chairman of Mayanka or the Kumasi Abbatoire.
Mr Peter Ayinbisa, a stalwart of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Bongo District was tipped to be retained as DCE but his apparent ‘misspeak’ on the cause of teenage pregnancy in his District and a scandal surrounding the award of contracts for the drilling of boreholes seemed to have worked against his renomination.
According to a report by investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni, the assembly had rewarded a contract to itself and used the contract details of a contractor to get the contract. The assembly then paid money into his account and withdrew in breach of banking regulations
Even though he said he had not benefited financially from the contract, his renomination was unexpected given the controversy it generated.
Rita Atanga is an accomplished businesswoman who is said to be a quiet but influential member of the NPP.
Former Parliamentary candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the Bolgatanga Central Constituency, Rex S. A. Asanga has been nominated to head the Bolgatanga Municipality. David Akolgo Amoah has also been nominated to replace Rev. Emmanuel Abole as DCE for the Bolgatanga East District.
