Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo visited the family of late Highlife legend Charles Kojo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, on Friday, August 1, to express his condolences.

He was accompanied by members of the Minority in Parliament and senior officials of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

During the visit to the musician’s home, the former President became emotional and shed tears after receiving formal notice of Daddy Lumba’s passing. The Highlife icon died on Saturday, July 26, at the Bank Hospital in Accra after a short illness.

Speaking to the family, Akufo-Addo praised Daddy Lumba as a national asset whose music touched lives and significantly influenced his political journey.

“I’m here to commiserate with you. His death is painful. Accept my condolences; you have truly lost a great person. He contributed immensely to my political career. If I start today, I won’t be able to finish talking about the great work Lumba did for me,” he said.

He added that the musician’s campaign songs helped him gain popularity across the country.

“My name is popular across the country due to the songs he composed for me. The songs resonate across all political divides. I showed appreciation to him when he was alive. I ensured he was awarded because he did massive work.”

The former President pledged to support the family during the funeral and said he wants to be involved in all preparations. He also promised to continue supporting the musician’s widow and children.
