Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has revealed how his parents’ coaching has influenced his game, including their constant criticism of his tendency to pass rather than shoot.

Partey, who has been in fine form for the Gunners this season, said his parents give him feedback after matches, both positive and negative, which has helped him become a better player.

“Both my parents are my coaches,” he said in an interview with Supersports. “There are instances during a game when I feel I can just chip the ball but she [his mum] would be like, ‘Why don’t I just attempt shooting often’.”

He went on to explain that in certain situations, he feels it is better to pass the ball rather than shoot, in order to create space on the pitch.

The Ghanaian international also had some advice for his team, who are currently leading the Premier League with a five-point gap.

“I think the team is working hard,” he said. “We go game after game and every game is important for us, trying to give our best and try to win every game as we have done. In the end, we need to earn the right to win and the team is working hard to be able to win the games.”

Partey’s performances for Arsenal have earned him praise from supporters and football lovers alike, and he will be looking to continue his good form as the Gunners push for their first league title in almost two decades.

The north London side currently sit at the top of the league table with a five-point lead and 11 games remaining in the season.
