Asanko Gold Ghana Limited has partnered  the Amansie West District Assembly to revive stalled road rehabilitation works by addressing fuel supply challenges that have hampered the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP).

The Assembly, which has access to road maintenance machinery under DRIP, has struggled to sustain operations due to rising fuel costs. Asanko Gold’s intervention, valued at GHS200,000, is expected to accelerate ongoing works and improve access routes that have long constrained transportation, economic activity, and service delivery in the district.

District Coordinating Director, Okrah Thomas Kwame, underscored the urgency of the initiative, noting that poor road conditions have undermined the District’s ability to retain essential workers.

“Many workers posted to the district do not stay long because of the condition of the roads. It affects teachers, nurses, and even security personnel,” he explained.

He commended Asanko Gold for its support, describing the effort as a collaborative partnership between the Assembly, the company, and community leaders.

Traditional authorities have also welcomed the intervention. Nana Kwesi Okoh II, Chief of Manso-Tetrem, described the support as timely, stressing that improved roads would enhance mobility and stimulate local economic activity. Residents have similarly raised concerns about the broader impact of poor infrastructure on livelihoods and development.

According to Jerry Duah, Stakeholder Engagement Unit Manager at Asanko Gold, the initiative reflects the company’s structured approach to supporting development outcomes in host communities.

“This is not a handout. It is a deliberate investment to support government capacity and deliver measurable impact,” he said, adding that improved road infrastructure would contribute to safer and more efficient operations while supporting economic growth.

The collaboration brings together the District Assembly, traditional authorities, and the private sector in a coordinated effort to reduce travel time and improve access across communities. Asanko Gold has previously supported similar road improvement projects in the Amansie South District and intends to extend assistance to other assemblies within its operational catchment.

By easing movement within the district, the initiative demonstrates how targeted public-private partnerships can address infrastructure gaps in mining regions, while reinforcing the role of corporate social investment in advancing local development.
