The Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association, Henry Asante Twum, has explained Jiangsu Suning need Black Stars midfielder, Mubarak Wakaso, urgently for an important assignment.

Guangzhou Evergrande will host Wakaso’s Jiangsu Suning tomorrow in the final of the Chinese Super League, the same day the Black Stars will play Sudan in the first leg of the 2021 AFCON Qualifying double-header at the Cape Coast Stadium.

Asante Twum said he’d not be available for the first league but would travel to join his teammates for the second leg in Khartoum, five days later.

“He was called up but his team is in a critical situation participating in the Chinese super league which is happening on the same Thursday that Ghana is playing, ” he told Light FM.

”The club needs him badly, so we mutually agreed for his presence afterwards then he returns to honour the second leg against Sudan on the 17th.”

“The call ups have been difficult due to the current situation on the grounds including Covid-19 cases, injuries, travelling issues and a whole lot.”

Wakaso was integral in Jiangsu Suning’s first-leg 0-0 draw and will be important in the reverse fixture tomorrow.

The 30-year-old former Deportivo Alaves midfielder was not called for last month’s friendlies against Mali and Qatar but has been called up for the double-header against Sudan.

The GFA has reported up to eighteen players have intensified preparations for the clash tomorrow, after shifting camp from Accra to Cape Coast.
