Mahama Ayariga, Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, has claimed that the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s (OSP) dismissal of former President John Dramani Mahama enhances the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) position before the December elections.

The OSP, led by Kissi Agyebeng, identified Mahama as “Government Official 1” (GO1) in the Airbus scandal but cleared him of wrongdoing.

The investigation also confirmed that Mahama’s brother, Samuel Mahama, was “Intermediary 5.”

Ayariga expressed satisfaction with the OSP’s findings during a press conference on August 8 in Accra, noting that Mahama’s clearance gives the NDC a strategic advantage in its campaign.

He emphasized that the NDC views the exoneration positively, especially as corruption remains a critical issue in the upcoming election.

“It is good that the OSP has concluded their investigation and cleared Mahama of any wrongdoing.

This development is significant as we approach the elections where corruption is a crucial topic,” Ayariga said.

According to Ayariga, the NDC uses the OSP’s findings to counter accusations from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that have linked Mahama to the Airbus scandal.

The NDC believes this clears the way to demonstrate its commitment to fighting corruption more effectively if given the opportunity.
