Hearts of Oak captain and Ghana’s number one goalkeeper, Benjamin Asare, was named Man of the Match following Sunday’s Super Clash victory over Asante Kotoko in Kumasi.
Asare, who has also been recently nominated for the Goalkeeper of the Month award, delivered a commanding performance between the posts for the Phobians. He was largely untroubled in the early stages of the game until Hearts were reduced to 10 men after Emmanuel Amankwah was sent off for a second yellow card.
With the numerical advantage, Kotoko intensified their pressure and threw everything at the Hearts defence in search of an equaliser. However, Asare rose to the occasion, producing a series of crucial saves to deny the Porcupine Warriors and preserve his side’s slender lead.
The result means Asare has now kept nine clean sheets in the league this season, underlining his importance to the team’s campaign. Hearts of Oak secured a 1–0 victory over their archrivals at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
