Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director, Henry Asante Twum, has revealed that the Black Queens’ forthcoming international friendly against Japan is a crucial part of their preparations for the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

The match is scheduled for Saturday, following the team’s arrival in Kanazawa City, Japan.

The Black Queens commenced their training at the Seibu Ryokuchi Park on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, with a light shake-up session after their long journey. The team is set to continue their training regimen from Wednesday, July 10, through to Friday, July 12.

Asante Twum explained that the friendly against Japan, which is bound for the Olympic Games, is an excellent opportunity for the Black Queens to stay active and prepare for the WAFCON, initially scheduled for this year but postponed by CAF until next year.

“They are in Japan and Japan is going to the upcoming Olympic Games we didn’t qualify but we are also preparing to go to the AFCON for the Women which was to come on this year but CAF has rescheduled to next year. So we thought that we don’t want the team to be idle till next year for the tournament so when we looked luckily for us Japan expressed interest in playing against us,” he told Peace FM as monitored by Footballghana.com

“The team left on Sunday evening as I speak to you they are in Japan now yesterday they held their first major training. The game is on Saturday in the morning Ghana time when we look at the significance of the game it is a lot because the last time they played was against Zambia almost six months so there is a need for us to keep the team busy.

“The players too the coach has scouted some of the girls where not born here they were born abroad and the coach scouted them this is a very good opportunity to test them,”
