Award winning musician Black Sherif has paid the medical bills of several underprivileged mothers at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra, bringing relief to families struggling to return home with their newborn babies.
The artiste, born Mohammed Ismail Sharrif, donated essential items to mothers at the Nkrumah and Yebuah Wards and cleared their outstanding medical bills, totaling GH¢50,696.
The initiative was facilitated through the Mohammed Ismail Sharrif Foundation, a charity established by the musician to aid vulnerable groups. The foundation’s work complements broader efforts to enhance maternal healthcare and curb preventable deaths among mothers and newborns.
Hospital officials confirmed that the gesture helped mothers who could not afford their maternity expenses after delivery, with some having to stay longer than expected due financial constraints.
They also commended the gesture, describing it as a contribution toward improved maternal healthcare in line with UN targets to reduce maternal and infant mortality.
For the recipients, the donation went beyond financial relief – It gave them the opportunity to leave the hospital with dignity, reunite with their families, and start a new chapter with their babies free from debt.
This isn’t the first philanthropic act: in January 2023, he settled medical bills for nursing mothers at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital and provided them with food, drinks and toiletries.
