The Black Stars technical advisor Winfred Schaefer has singled Hearts of Oak captain and goalkeeper Benjamin Asare for praise, ranking him as the best home-based player he has watched since assuming his role with the national team.
Having given assurance to closely monitor the Ghana Premier League, the veteran German tactician has been to many venues in the past two months engaging directly with local coaches and players.
Schaefer was in attendance at the weekend when Medeama edged Samartex on penalties to book a place the quarterfinal of the Ghana FA Cup campaign.
His assessment underscores the growing belief that Ghanas domestic league remains a vital source of quality talent for the Black Stars.
In an exclusive interview with Medeamaa FM, Schaefer, an AFCON winner with Cameroon highlighted the importance of the local league and singled out Asare for special praise, insisting the Hearts of Oak shot-stopper has set the standard among home-based players.
Over the past two months. I have been visiting league venues, speaking with coaches and players. The best player I have seen is Benjamin Asare, and he is the Black Stars first-choice goalkeeper he said.
Asares consistent performances and leadership at Hearts of Oak have earned him admiration across the league, and Schaefers comments further boost his standing as a key figure in Ghanas domestic football scene.
Besides, the former Cameroonian head coach has sent a strong message to players playing their trade in the local scene, urging them to work hard if they are get a call up into the Black Stars.
