Management of the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital in the Upper East Region, has appealed to philanthropists and corporate bodies to help establish a hemodialysis centre at the facility.

The Authorities say the dialysis facility will facilitate the management and treatment of kidney related ailments.

The Upper East Regional Hospital is a major referral health facility in the region, and some districts in North East Region, as well as parts of Burkina Faso.

The absence of a dialysis facility, is of great worry to Physician Specialist, Dr. Emmanuel Akatibo.

He said only few patients can afford to travel to Tamale or Wa for dialysis services.

Dr. Akatibo, at a fundraising durbar, appealed for public support for the Upper East Regional Hospital to get a dialysis facility. A kidney patient narrates what he goes through to get treatment.

The Medical Director of the Upper East Regional Hospital, Dr. Aiden Saanwie, said a dialysis facility will reduce renal related mortalities in the region by 60 percent.

The Upper East Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu, appealed to well-wishers to donate towards a worthy course.

On behalf of the Regional Administration and the 15 Municipal and District Chief Executives in the region, Mr. Yakubu, donated 80, thousand cedis to procure a dialysis equipment and its accessories for the hospital.

The Upper East Regional Hospital needs about 814 thousand cedis as seed money for the project.

All donations can be made to the account name Regional Hospital Pooled Donor Fund, with NIB Account Number 1103040189101, Bolgatanga Branch.
