The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Bono East Region is reading meanings into a road crash that occurred between an Electoral Commission (EC) truck and a vehicle belonging to the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to Citi News sources, the EC’s truck was hit at the rear by the NPP vehicle near Suhum in the Eastern Region on Saturday, November 21, 2020.
The EC truck with registration number GV 1513-20 was carrying election materials bound for the Bono East Region when it allegedly crashed into the NPP vehicle which was conveying some members of the party.
But the NDC has alleged that the crash may have been orchestrated to compromise the election materials in the EC vehicle.
General Secretary of the NDC in the Bono East Region, Shamsudeen Ali Mohammed in a Citi News interview alleged that the incident was a well-calculated one to give the NPP an advantage in the upcoming polls.
“This is very unfortunate. I am surprised that a truck that is carrying election materials had to be towed back to Accra. People will say it is accidental but we see it to be one that isn’t accidental because they have bad intentions because we had declared that the NDC and its flagbearer John Dramani Mahama is going to win all 11 seats in the Bono East Region.”
Meanwhile, the NPP’s Bono East Regional Deputy Secretary, Maham Seidu Liman has rubbished the NDC’s claims.
“I am sorry to say that, this is untrue. Our vehicle got to Techiman this morning and I met with the team around 1:30 am at the Divisional Police Office Headquarters in Techiman. The Regional Representative is here, the National representative is also here so if his vehicle was involved in an accident, why is he here? I don’t know where the NDC is getting his information from because the car was never involved in a crash”, he explained.
