The Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST) has demonstrated its commitment to fostering the education of Ghana’s future engineers by providing critical support to 50 deserving engineering students at the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) in Tarkwa.
This initiative aims to equip these students with advanced personal computers to enhance their academic pursuits in engineering.
During the presentation ceremony, Joseph Kpemka, the Deputy Managing Director of BOST, underscored the company’s corporate social responsibility.
He emphasized that BOST’s support extends beyond corporate interests to impact communities where it operates positively.
Kpemka noted that the provision of laptops aims to empower students with knowledge, a lasting asset that can benefit both present and future generations.
Addressing the recipients directly, Kpemka challenged them to strive for academic excellence, pointing out that maintaining high academic standards would justify further support from BOST in the future.
He also encouraged the students to aim for top performance, enhancing their prospects of securing lucrative employment opportunities upon graduation.
The Pro Vice Chancellor of UMaT, Anthony Simons, expressed gratitude to BOST for alleviating financial pressures on the university and students alike.
He commended BOST for its significant contribution to enhancing academic resources, which, he noted, would relieve the university’s burden in providing similar support to needy students.
Simons urged the beneficiaries to use the laptops responsibly for academic purposes, advising them against distractions like social media that could derail their studies. He emphasized the importance of academic diligence, highlighting that outstanding performance could open doors for future employment opportunities at BOST.
Karen Tetteh, one of the beneficiary students, shared her journey as a needy student facing financial challenges before receiving the BOST scholarship.
She expressed heartfelt appreciation for the support and assured that she and her peers would utilize the resources effectively to merit their trust.
The event also received accolades from Catherine Biney, the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Director of Education, who lauded BOST for its commitment to supporting education in the community. She emphasized the transformative impact of such initiatives on the lives of students and the broader community.
BOST’s gesture underscores its dedication to corporate social responsibility and exemplifies its proactive approach to nurturing the next generation of engineering professionals in Ghana.
