The Ghana Chamber of Bulk Oil Distributors (CBOD) has called for measured public commentary as the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) intensifies investigations into suspected petroleum import and tax-related irregularities in the downstream oil sector.
In a statement issued on April 8, 2026, the Chamber said recent actions by the OSP have prompted widespread public discussion around petroleum taxes, but clarified that these matters are generally incidental to the operations of Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) and not directly related to Bulk Oil Distributors (BDCs), refineries, or petroleum terminals that it represents.
The press release said the issues under investigation remain preliminary and underscored the need for careful public discourse to protect the reputation and operations of businesses involved.
It noted that companies affected maintain extensive trading and financial relationships both locally and internationally, and premature reputational harm could have long‑term consequences.
CBOD further urged its members and other Petroleum Service Providers (PSPs) who are subjects of the probe to cooperate fully with the OSP and called on stakeholders and the public to allow due process to unfold without drawing premature conclusions.
The Chamber reaffirmed its commitment to upholding integrity and transparency in the downstream petroleum sector and stated it stands ready to assist the Special Prosecutor’s office and other law enforcement agencies in their investigations and in enhancing understanding of industry operations.
The OSP recently executed court‑approved operations at five fuel depots and associated BDC facilities as part of its probe into alleged petroleum import irregularities, under‑declaration of imports, misclassification of fuel during transfers and potential tax evasion.
The companies reported to be under investigation include Platon Oil and Gas Ltd, Sentuo Oil, Akwaaba Oil, Sahara Oil and Gas Ltd and Chase Petroleum Ghana Ltd.
