Students at Bimbilla College of Education have been compelled to vacate the campus amid an ongoing strike by the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG), now in its third week.
Since June 14, 2024, the strike has paralyzed academic and administrative activities due to the government’s delay in implementing an arbitral award and negotiating service conditions.
Despite the National Labour Commission’s order to end the strike, CETAG still demands a resolution of its grievances.
The impact has been severe, with students facing financial strain and uncertainty about their academic prospects. In an exclusive interview with Channel One News, students expressed frustration over the disruption to their studies.
The strike’s nationwide effect has left final-year students concerned about potential graduation delays, while first-year students fear the impact on their educational progress.
Amidst the uncertainty, some students resort to self-study to prepare for impending exams. The next round of negotiations is scheduled for August 6, 2024, as students implore the government to prioritize a swift resolution, particularly in this crucial election year.
