The Chartered Insurance Ladies Association of Ghana (CILAG) has brightened up the faces of the children at the SOS Village this Easter season.

CILAG is an association of insurance professional ladies within the insurance industry of Ghana. The ladies donated items worth over GH¢40,000 to the children at the SOS Village in Tema last Monday.

The donation was in line with their annual Corporate Social Responsibility programme dubbed ‘Easter Orphanage Project’. The association embarks on this drive as their way of giving back to society, especially the needy and vulnerable.

The SOS Children’s Village is one of the orphanages in Ghana licensed under social welfare. The orphanage takes on children from 0 to 11 years of age, care, nurture, and shelter them until adulthood or when they are put into employment and become self-sufficient. Among the children are those from very abusive homes, abandoned by their parents, found and brought to the home.

The association led by the president, Nicholina Naa Yeye Adumuah, who is also the Regional Head for the National Insurance Commission (NIC) and Branch Operations Manager at Central Region for NIC, handed the items over to the management of the orphanage and urged them to continue doing what they’ve been doing to make sure these kids are well fed, clothed, sheltered and nurtured to be responsible adults. The children were also advised to respect, obey instructions, learn hard, and pray for God to guide them and become responsible leaders.

She added that her association has always seen the need to support such homes in the upbringing of less privileged children, who, for various reasons, find themselves there. These children come from different backgrounds with different and difficult emotions and mentalities, yet the “mothers and aunties” (caregivers) are able to tolerate and, with love, manage the children to adulthood. As an association, the little we can do is to assist them no matter how small to ensure the children are not on the streets or become deviant is our goal.

Items presented to the home included rice, gari, cooking oil, palm oil, tin fish, tin tomatoes, beans, eggs, biscuits, drinks, water, detergents, bleach, sanitary pads, T-roll, diapers, clothes, footwears, beddings, learning materials, and branded CILAG exercise books.

The association was grateful for such an opportunity to show love to these innocent children. The president said they would continue supporting the needy in appreciation of God’s blessings upon CILAG and the insurance industry.
