Manchester City secured a famous victory at Anfield on Sunday, coming from a goal down to defeat Liverpool 2–1.

In what was the standout Premier League fixture of the weekend, the Citizens produced one of the most remarkable comebacks in a high stakes encounter against a struggling but resurgent Liverpool side.

The first half was marked by missed opportunities for Manchester City, who failed to capitalize on several close-range chances. The game came to life in the second half as Liverpool increased the pressure, eventually earning a free kick in a dangerous area. Dominik Szoboszlai fired home a spectacular effort from the set piece in the 74th minute to give the hosts the lead.

City responded swiftly, with Bernardo Silva pouncing on a pass from Erling Haaland to level the score ten minutes later. Deep into stoppage time, Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson committed a foul on a City attacker, prompting the referee to award a penalty. Haaland calmly converted from the spot to complete the dramatic turnaround.

The drama continued as Rayan Cherki appeared to score a third goal for City, only for it to be ruled out following a VAR review for a foul in the build-up. Szoboszlai was later sent off for a challenge on Haaland, leaving Liverpool to finish the match with ten men.

The victory narrows the gap at the top of the table, with Manchester City now just six points behind league leaders Arsenal.
