CK Akonnor named new Ghana Blackstars head coach


The 45-year-old gaffer has been appointed the new head coach of the senior national team of Ghana, according to Angel FM

Former Ghana international Charles Kwablan Akonnor has been named the new head coach of Black Stars of Ghana until 2022.

The ex-Wolfsburg player officially inked a two-year deal with the Ghana Football Association on Tuesday.

He has been named the leader of West Africa country technical team after their head coach Kwesi Appiah was sacked last month.

Coach Akonnor has vast experience in coaching with his stint at top Ghana Premier League clubs namely Hearts of Oak, Dreams FC, Ashanti Gold SC, Asante Kotoko and relegated club Sekondi Eleven Wise.

He was without a club after parting ways with Asante Kotoko after guiding them to win the GFA Normalization Committee Special Competition in 2019.

Before his appointment, he was named the substantive assistant coach of the Black Stars of Ghana under Coach Kwesi Appiah.

He was part of the Black Stars technical team that recorded victory over South Africa and Sao Tome and Principle in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. can also confirm that George Boateng and David Duncan will been named the assistant coaches of the Black Stars of Ghana

Coach Akonnor capped 41 times for Ghana and he was named captain of the Black Stars following Abedi Pele’s retirement.
