Teacher Strike

PRINCOF and GTEC have firmly rejected the calls from TTAG to shut down all Colleges of Education in response to the ongoing CETAG strike.

CETAG began its nationwide strike on June 14, protesting the government’s failure to meet their arbitral awards and other service conditions.

The 54-day strike by CETAG has significantly disrupted academic activities, leading to many campuses being left empty.

PRINCOF President, Professor Samuel Atintono, reiterated that there are more viable solutions than closing the colleges in response to TTAG’s demand for closure and adjustments to the academic calendar.

“We understand the students’ frustrations and the difficulties caused, but the decision to close the schools involves a complex process and is not currently being considered,” Atintono said.

He assured that efforts are underway to address the issue, particularly the salary disparities central to the CETAG strike.

GTEC Deputy Director General Professor Francis K. E. Nunoo also stressed that closing the colleges would have severe financial consequences, making it impractical and informing the audience about the economic impact of such a decision.

Peter Partey Anti, Executive Director of the Institute for Education Studies, expressed disappointment with the student body’s perceived inaction in the crisis.
