Colgate, the flagship oral care brand trusted by families for generations, has partnered with retail giant Melcom and the Ministry of Education to launch an eight-week scholarship campaign aimed at transforming the lives of Ghanaian schoolchildren. The initiative, dubbed “Give a Child a Future to Smile About”, seeks to support the education of deserving schoolchildren, reward academic excellence and promote good oral health and hygiene in schools across the country.
Under the campaign, scholarships worth GH¢240,000 will be awarded to 16 brilliant but needy schoolchildren, with each beneficiary receiving GH¢15,000 to support their academic journey. From textbooks and school fees to uniforms and other learning materials, the fund is expected to ease the financial burden on parents and keep more children in the classroom.
Speaking at the official launch in Accra, the partners emphasised that the initiative goes beyond financial support. It is about restoring confidence, dignity and hope, giving children a reason to smile, stay in school and dream bigger for the future. According to the organisers, a healthy smile and quality education are intertwined, forming the foundation for a child’s self-esteem and success.
The Deputy Minister of Education, Dr Clement Apaak, who graced the occasion, commended Colgate and Melcom for complementing the government’s efforts to make education accessible, equitable and inclusive. He noted that while the government continues to invest heavily in Free SHS and other interventions, private-sector partnerships such as this are critical to closing gaps and reaching vulnerable children.
He called on parents, guardians, teachers and consumers to actively support the cause by buying Colgate products from Melcom shops, stressing that every purchase brings a child closer to a scholarship and a brighter future.
The General Manager of Colgate West Africa, Mr Richard Forwag, reiterated the company’s long-standing commitment to advancing education and community well-being. He highlighted Colgate’s social impact programmes, which have positively impacted millions of schoolchildren across Ghana over the years by teaching them proper brushing habits and providing free dental screenings.
Mr Forwag said the new scholarship scheme was a natural extension of Colgate’s purpose of building healthier, more confident communities.

Representatives of Melcom also pledged their commitment to the campaign, noting that the company’s numerous branches nationwide would help mobilise families across all 16 regions.
To participate in the campaign, consumers are required to purchase any two Colgate toothpastes from a Melcom store and scan the campaign’s QR code at the point of purchase to enter the promotion. Weekly draws will then select beneficiaries, ensuring transparency and nationwide participation.
The initiative seeks to turn everyday shopping into a tool for educational support, giving ordinary Ghanaian families a direct role in shaping a child’s future.
As the eight-week campaign kicks off, expectations are high that it will spark a national conversation about corporate social responsibility, oral health and education financing.
