Authorities in Ghana have launched a manhunt for Kwadwo Antwi, a driver accused of absconding with GH¢1.2 million belonging to his employers.
The Kumasi Circuit Court has issued an arrest warrant for Antwi on charges of stealing under Section 124(1) of the Criminal Offences Act.
The incident occurred when Antwi was entrusted with delivering the substantial cash amount to business partners in Kumasi. Instead of completing the transaction, the driver allegedly disappeared with the funds. Police reports indicate all attempts to contact him have failed, with investigators now focusing their search on the Western North Region, particularly the Sefwi Aswiniso area.
This case highlights ongoing concerns about cash-based transactions in Ghana’s business environment. Financial analysts have repeatedly cautioned companies about the risks of transporting large cash sums, advocating for electronic transfers where possible. The Ghana Police Service has urged anyone with information about Antwi’s whereabouts to come forward as the investigation continues.
Legal experts note that if apprehended and convicted, the accused could face significant prison time given the substantial amount involved. The incident serves as a reminder to businesses to strengthen their financial controls and cash handling protocols, particularly when large sums are involved in commercial transactions.
