Nigerian content creator and musician, Oderhohwo Efe, popularly known as Carter Efe, has become Africa’s most-followed streamer on Twitch.
He broke the record previously held by compatriot, Adesokan Emmanuel, known as Shank Comics.
The milestone followed a high-profile livestream collaboration with Afrobeats superstar, Davido, on Wednesday December 17, which triggered a massive surge in followers.
Checks by PUNCH Online on Thursday showed that Efe now boasts over 406,000 followers on the platform.
Shank Comics, who set the previous record about six months ago, holds approximately 233,000 followers.
Efe, who had about 322,000 followers just a day earlier, gained roughly 160,000 followers in four days, a rise that stemmed directly from the announcement and execution of his joint stream with Davido.
The “Machala” crooner also reportedly broke the record for the most-watched Twitch livestream in Africa, with about 83,000 viewers, and became the first African streamer to surpass 20,000 subscribers on Twitch.
During the session, Davido connected Efe with notable figures, including his wife, nightlife mogul Cubana Chief Priest, and even called out the Twitch CEO Dan Clancy.
He also dialled Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen, for a lively on-stream chat.
Osimhen’s appearance added a sporting dimension to the stream, delighting fans who tuned in for the rare crossover between Nigeria’s music and football scenes.
The event took an unexpected turn when content creator Enzo burst in, challenging Efe to an impromptu boxing match to “prove” his loyalty to Davido’s 30BG fan base, a moment that generated widespread reactions across social media.
