The Accra High Court has cleared the way for the funeral of highlife icon Daddy Lumba to proceed on Saturday, following the applicants’ failure to meet a GH¢2 million payment directive imposed as part of an earlier injunction.

What initially appeared to be a major impediment for the musician’s wider family was resolved today when the court set aside its temporary order restraining the funeral arrangements. The ruling allows the ceremony in Kumasi to continue as planned tomorrow.

In its decision, the court noted that affidavits before it indicated that the immediate family had been excluded from aspects of the funeral planning. It further emphasised that the substantive issues raised in the matter needed to be fully examined.

Lawyers for all parties were summoned back to court, after which the judge ordered the applicants to appear by 2:00 p.m. and pay GH¢2 million into the court to cover costs already incurred in preparations.

Their inability to honour the payment directive resulted in their application being struck out, effectively removing the legal barrier.

Counsel for the family head, Thomas Kwadwo Osei, welcomed the outcome, describing it as a significant relief that enables the family to proceed with final arrangements.

The earlier injunction had caused temporary uncertainty, particularly for relatives and admirers who had already arrived in Kumasi for the rites. With the matter now settled, preparations for tomorrow’s funeral are back on track.
