National Chairman for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Ofosu Ampofo has promised to open Ghana’s land borders immediately they are declared winners in the December polls.

Ghana’s land borders were closed by the President of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Sunday, March 22 to to limit the inflow of foreigners since Ghana’s COVID-19 cases were mostly imported.

But according to Ofosu Ampofo, COVID-19 does not cross borders and therefore the NDC will open them when they come to power in 2020.

The National Chairman said this when he was introducing Prof Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang at Ketu North constituency in the Volta region.

He noted that closing the borders have adversely affected the people in terms of trade and therefore there was the need to open the borders.

“How does the government expect the people of Ketu South to survive? When we asked them they say it is because of Covid.

“Have you seen Covid crossing borders before?

“It is only Nana Akufo-Addo and Bawumia who can tell us that the Covid cross border and that if you close the border Covid will not be able to come.

“I want to assure you that 40 days from now there is going to be an election and there’s going to be a new president and a new government under the leadership of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama.

“The NDC government under John Mahama will not ensure that the border closes perpetually. We will open the border immediately and allow trade activities between Ghana and Togo.”
