In a transformative step towards improving healthcare delivery and curbing water scarcity, the Abutia Kloe Clinic in the Ho West District of the Volta Region has officially commissioned and taken over a fully mechanized borehole project, an initiative that promises to significantly improve the quality of life in the community.
The long-awaited project brings an end to decades of acute water shortages that had hampered the clinic’s operations, threatening not just the delivery of quality healthcare but the very well-being of the people of Abutia Kloe. With a constant, clean, and reliable water supply now in place, healthcare workers are empowered to operate in a more hygienic and efficient environment.
“This is more than just a water project, it is a life-saving intervention,” said Mr Akorli Agyeman Edem, a representative of the Ho West District Health Directorate. “Water is central to healthcare delivery, from cleaning and sterilisation to ensuring the dignity and safety of patients. We are deeply grateful for this support.”
The borehole project stands as a beacon of hope and unity, reflecting a collective commitment to achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
At the commissioning ceremony, community leaders, stakeholders, and development partners gathered to celebrate the achievement. The chiefs and elders of Abutia Kloe expressed heartfelt gratitude for what they described as a “life-changing gift” to their community.
The special guest of honour, Mr Rich Kofi Kofituo, Acting Deputy CEO of the Tree Crop Development Authority, emphasised the importance of self-initiative and community participation in development.
“The government alone cannot do everything,” he said. “Rather, it is through collaboration that we can drive the progress of this community. I want to especially commend Mr Horlali Yaw Haligah for his exceptional love for this community. This project is a clear example of what’s possible when we take action.”
Mr Kofituo further encouraged citizens to identify development opportunities and bring them home to help build a more resilient and progressive community.
The success of the borehole project was made possible through the collaborative efforts of Promasidor Ghana Ltd., World Vision Ghana, and a group of committed individuals, including Horlali Yaw Haligah, Gideon Kodo, Jerome Eli Bediako, Edward Opoku Asante, and Fred Kofi Elorm Buatsi.
Stakeholders emphasised the need for regular maintenance and community ownership to safeguard the facility.
“Let’s not see this as the end, but as a beginning,” said Mr Haligah. “This borehole must be maintained and protected so that future generations will continue to benefit from it.”
As the clinic turns a new page, the people of Abutia Kloe look forward to a future where water is no longer a limitation, but a strength, fueling better healthcare, hygiene, and hope for all.
