Assistant Kotoko coach, David Ocloo

Assistant coach for Kotoko David Ocloo has been charged by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Regulatory Actions for his post-match comments about the match officials following the team’s 1-0 defeat to Heart of Lions in Kpando.

The loss, coupled with Nicholas Mensah’s red card, dropped Kotoko to fourth place on the league table.

Ocloo’s comments during the post-match interview echoed coach Prosper Ogum’s reactions to certain decisions during the game.

The GFA Regulatory Actions considered Ocloo’s remarks a breach of Section 34(6)(d) of the GFA Premier League Regulations, 2019, specifically for comments made about match officials in a post-match review interview.

The GFA statement read, “David Ocloo has been charged with a breach of Section 34(6)(d) of the GFA Premier League Regulations, 2019. It is alleged that his commentary on the Match Officials constitutes misconduct that brings the name of the game into disrepute.”

Ocloo has until Wednesday, February 28, 2024, to respond to the charges. The GFA emphasises the need for fair play and respectful discourse regarding match officials, and any perceived misconduct is subject to regulatory actions.

As Kotoko aim to rebound from their first league loss in seven games, they will face Bibiani Gold Stars at the Baba Yara Stadium in their next fixture.

With a focus on the Ghana Premier League and the team’s elimination from the Ghana FA Cup, Kotoko seek to maintain their competitive edge in the domestic league.
