A Legal practitioner and Founder and CEO of Ahmed Legal Consult, Musah Ahmed Esq., has cautioned against calls for a state of emergency as a solution to illegal mining, warning that such a move would not automatically resolve the crisis.
Speaking on GBC’s Current Agenda, Mr Ahmed stressed that the galamsey problem is too complex to be addressed through a single political or legal declaration.
“Declaring a state of emergency won’t automatically solve galamsey. People don’t understand the semantics. The issue is very broad and requires a fair and collective interpretation,” he explained.
He argued that the fight against galamsey demands a comprehensive, institutional, and collective approach rather than political shortcuts, adding that both state agencies and citizens must play their roles effectively.
