The Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Lariba Zuweira Abudu, says the growing numbers of child beggars on the streets of Accra and other major cities in the country could be minimized if the public desists from giving them alms.
She said over the years, the number of child beggars has risen despite efforts of government to rid the streets of these beggars, most of whom are foreigners.
Madam Abudu was speaking at the Minister’s Press Briefing in Accra yesterday, June 4, 2023 to update the public on the various programmes under the Ministry.
She said government has repatriated about 400 of such foreign child beggars only for many more to resurface on the streets few months after.
