Apex Health Insurance Ghana and 100 Black Men of Ghana have launched a partnership to provide tailored healthcare coverage for Diasporans relocating to Ghana.
The initiative will also channel proceeds from the scheme into funding structured youth mentorship programmes across the country.
The programme, known as the Diaspora Health & Sustainability Bridge Programme, seeks to address gaps in access to reliable healthcare for returnees and sustainable support for youth development.
Its significance has been underscored by the recent dual citizenship ceremony held in Accra where a new group of Diasporans formally became Ghanaian citizens.
According to the organizers, the programme is positioned to ensure that these new citizens and others considering relocation are fully informed about healthcare options available to them as they settle in the country.
Nii Nortey K. Oquaye, Oblantaa Mantse of Osu Ashante and Chairman of 100 Black Men of Ghana, explained that the initiative is a strategic intervention that goes beyond welfare.
“This is not charity- this is strategy. When we give Diasporans the security of health coverage and the gift of authentic guidance, they come home. And when they come home, our children gain mentors, our economy gains champions, and Ghana gains its future,” he said.
He clarified that under the arrangement, Apex Health Insurance, a private insurer licensed by the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), will develop a dedicated Diaspora Health Insurance Plan designed to meet the needs of returnees and first-time residents.
The package, according to the Oblantaa Mantse of Osu Ashante will include outpatient and inpatient care, access to pharmaceuticals, diagnostic services, and maternity care, with optional dental and optical benefits.
Services will be delivered through a network of more than 600 healthcare providers across the country.
“A distinctive feature of the programme is its built-in sustainability model, which allocates a portion of premiums paid by Diasporans to fund mentorship initiatives run by 100 Black Men of Ghana” he added.
Director of Promotion and Networking for the initiative, Dave Good Deeds, said the goal is to ensure returnees receive not just a warm welcome, but practical support.
“We want every Diasporan who chooses Ghana to feel genuinely held-not just with words, but with real support. If you get sick, you are covered; if you need direction, you have a network; and if you have family here, they are being guided by professionals,” he noted.
Vice President of the group, Kwame Michael, indicated that the initiative aligns with broader national efforts to strengthen Diaspora engagement and reintegration.
“Ghana is ready. The infrastructure is here, the welcome is genuine, and now the healthcare support is real. We are removing one of the major barriers to coming home,” he said.
He pointed out that beyond healthcare, the programme will also provide Diasporans with access to vetted professionals in areas such as legal services, real estate, financial planning and business development, to ease their transition into Ghanaian society.
Meanwhile, he said proceeds from the scheme will support a range of youth-focused interventions, including mentorship workshops, entrepreneurship bootcamps, innovation fellowships and career development programmes in Accra, Kumasi and Cape Coast.
“This model ensures that every Diasporan who signs onto the scheme contributes directly to the development of a young Ghanaian, creating a cycle of shared growth between returnees and local communities” he concluded.
