Former Ghana international Augustine Arhinful has urged the Black Stars to raise their level ahead of their international friendly against Germany, following a heavy defeat in their previous outing.
Ghana were handed a 5-1 thrashing by Austria in Vienna last Friday, in a performance that drew widespread criticism. The hosts seized control early in the game, with Marcel Sabitzer opening the scoring from the penalty spot in the 12th minute after a handball by defender Jonas Adjetey.
Austria tightened their grip after the break as Michael Gregoritsch and Stefan Posch both found the net to extend the lead. Jordan Ayew briefly offered Ghana hope with a goal in the 77th minute, but the response was immediate.
Substitute Carney Chukwuemeka added a fourth for Austria before Nicolas Seiwald sealed the emphatic victory with a stoppage-time strike.
The result has intensified scrutiny on head coach Otto Addo, with some sections of the public calling for his dismissal.
With Ghana set to wrap up their friendly schedule against Germany in Stuttgart later today, Arhinful believes the team must respond with a much-improved display.
I expect the team to improve their performance against Germany, he told 3Sports. The Black Stars should show a different approach because what we saw against Austria was disappointing.
Kick-off is scheduled for 18:45 GMT, with the match forming part of Ghanas build-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
