On Tuesday in the Adentan Constituency,  Mr. John Mahama indicated that Mr. Martin Amidu released a  report on the Agyapa royalties deal which imputes some erroneous undertakings on the part of the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta. The NDC presidential candidate made this assertion while addressing residents of Ashalley Botwe as part of his campaign in the Greater Accra region.

Mr. Mahama said;

“But because he is the cousin of the President, he cannot do anything to him and he cannot sack him too.”

Mr. Mahama outlined a number of mishappenings in the government sector which includes the recent dismissal of the PPA boss who was being investigated by CHRAJJ for corruption. Mr. John Mahama was of the view that the president shielded Mr. Adjenim Boateng Adjei because of conflict of interest.

‘’The former PPA boss was accused of sidestepping procurement processes for personal gains through an expose’ by investigative journalist Manasseh Azuri, dubbed “Contracts for Sale”.

Mr. Mahama pointed out that, President Akufo-Addo has not been able to live up to his own words when he solemnly swore to fight corruption in spite of its implications but rather, he has filled his government with members of his family and friends.

He said the test of a leader’s commitment to the fight against corruption is when he or she is able to take on appointees of the government who engage in corruption as it is happening in the Akuffo Addo government.

Mr. Mahama added;

‘So President Akufo-Addo should be bold and punish his government officials found to be corrupt but not to wait for the NDC government to come and be prosecuting them”.
